In the end, the Panama Canal is one of the biggest projects to date. On August 15, 1914
the Panama Canal officially opened. The toll to cross was 90 cents per cargo
ton. This wasn't just a big deal for the U.S. but for the entire world because it lowered travel time significantly. Theodore Roosevelt deserves all the credit for this project. His perseverance drove him and everyone involved with the project to get it done and done properly. Although he was not president during the time of completion, everyone knew he was the reason for it's completion. This changed the trade industry forever. It allowed ships to travel in almost half the time allowing for more foreign products to be traded. This in turn allowed for more trips and more shipments which meant more money to be made. This will forever be one of the greatest accomplishments of Theodore Roosevelt's life.
